Here at our Morningside based Indian Restaurant we bake the greatest Indian breads especially for you. Our range of authentic breads complement any meal and this week we’re going to tell you all about them.
The Curry Lovers Classic Nan
Originating from Iran – and whether you spell it Nan/Naan – it is the classic bread eaten with curry all across the world. It’s lovely moist dough is cooked in the tandoor to create the bread enjoyed by just about everyone. We do a range of different types, be it the standard plain nan, the lovely buttery garlic nan. We also do the two classics – the Sultana Nan (sometimes called a peshwari) – almost a dessert in itself with the sweetness of almonds and sultanas or the Keema nan – stuffed full of lovely spiced lamb mincemeat.
Paratha the Wrapper
A paratha is another flat bread whose name means layers of cooked flour. Unlike the nan – the paratha is cooked on a flat griddle called a tava. Rich with ghee – the cooked paratha is a delight to wrap around any of our Indian delicacies
Puri – a deep fried treat
This is one fluffy treat. A simply dough is made – flattened and thrown into hot oil until a beautiful golden brown. This is one to eat hot – and perfect for anything with a bit of sauce.
Chapati and Tandoori Roti
Two breads for you health conscious types. Both are made with lovely wholemeal dough rolled into a pancake and cooked (the chapati on a skillet and the roti in the tandoor). Both of these are perfect for stuffing full of your favourite dish and eating with your hands.
